On Saturday, February 28th, the GFWC Dominion Woman's Club and the Dominion Sisterhood Juniorette Club gathered in the cold to dedicate an Adopt-A-Shelter trailer. The club raised funds to purchase the trailer for the Prince William Red Cross to support sheltering in Prince William. The club members also attended "Ready When the Time Comes" training.
This partnership will allow the club members to assist the Red Cross in shelter operations when a shelter is opened and work side by side with Red Cross responders to perform shelter duties such as registration, feeding, logistics, and dormitory management.
Each trailer contains the initial start-up supplies for an emergency shelter when the Red Cross is called on to open shelters by local Emergency Management.
The trailer contains 70 cots, 30 sleeping pads, 200 blankets, 100 comfort kits, a hand truck, shelter forms, and 2 coffee pots. Trailers will be staged at local Fire Stations around the County. This is the forth donated Adopt-A-Shelter trailer from the community to build capacity for local sheltering. The Chapter still needs nine additional trailers to support the community.
